Thorn Birds What is Thorn Birds the movie or mini thing about?

Question by I love Peace and Music: What is Thorn Birds the movie or mini thing about?
I was really really confused what Thorn birds about like a girl likes a priest or something??? I really don’t know..like really can someone tell me whats it’s about….best answer wins!

Best answer:

Answer by Walter G.
You have it right.

The girl falls in love with a parish priest but the love can not be more than a sexual fling as he is a priest.

he makes his way to power in the church because of her support and contributions and in the end he is given her estate for the church.

Oh, yes, he gets her pregnant like in the Scarlett Letter and their daughter comes into the story as he learns she is his child.

Caged Bird Feeders Can you use wild bird feeders for budgies?

Question by James: Can you use wild bird feeders for budgies?
I go away a lot and I was wondering if I can use wild bird feeders in a budgies cage so that there will be plenty of food which will take them a while to go through? Will this work with budgies?

Thanks

James
*There must be a reason as to why this isn’t recommended in shops, and why i haven’t heard or seen anyone else do this?

Best answer:

Answer by CHEEKYChicken
I am not sure what you mean by “wild bird feeders”… But, you can get bird feeders at the pet shop that you hang in a aviary. They are large and carry lots of seed, you can get them for water too.

If this is what you mean by a wild bird feeder, I hope this helps! Even if it isn’t what you were thinking of, well, I hope this still helps!

Ps.
Would it be an idea to give the birds to a friend? Some one you can trust with your birds? Or you could give one of your friends the keys to the house or something and just ask them to change the food and water once a week or something…

Finch Bird Feeders How can I attract gold finches to my bird feeders?

Question by : How can I attract gold finches to my bird feeders?
I have several bird feeders in my backyard. Some contain sunflower seed, some contain wild bird mix, and two of them contain thistle (they’re the long, skinny, cylinder type).
Lots of birds come to my feeders, but very seldom do I see gold finches.
What can I do to attract them?
Thanks!

Best answer:

Answer by Archaeopteryx
Gold finches eat thistle seeds, as well as black sunflower seeds, so including them in your feeder is a great idea. Gold finch predators may be present in the neighborhood, which would drive them away.

Goldfinches feed primarily on weed seeds, and sometimes insects when they are available. For this reason, goldfinches love weedy fields, orchards, open woodlands, thickets and roadsides, especially if they contain patches of thistle and sunflowers. In other words, they may prefer eating these seeds right off the plant, instead of in a feeder, so you could plant some of these plants near the bird feeder.

Here’s a map of the presence of the American Goldfinch:

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/3/39/American_Goldfinch-rangemap.gif

Yellow = Summer only
Blue = Winter only
Green = Year round

So, it really depends on where you live and what time of the year it is. Hope this helps. :)

All About Birds Q&A: Why are all the liberals getting all upset over a bunch of stupid birds?

Question by David: Why are all the liberals getting all upset over a bunch of stupid birds?
Why is it that out of all the things that liberals could get upset about, they get upset about some stupid birds rather than the job losses? Isn’t this proof that liberals are mostly wishy-washy and unemployed, waiting for the nanny government to give them their dole.

Birds aren’t aware of anything either. They are the dumbest of the animal kingdom. Meanwhile fishermen are losing their jobs. Why do we care more about some stupid animal rather than PEOPLE??? Is this proof that they are suffering from the environMENTAList disease?

African Grey Parrot Q&A: How much does an african grey parrot cost to start?

Question by wombats_underpants: How much does an african grey parrot cost to start?
What will i need to start keeping an african grey parrot?
(excluding parrot) and how much?

and how much per week?

Best answer:

Answer by tawnyfern_two
Cage, about $ 400.00 to $ 600.00. Food, about $ 40.00 a week. Toys, about $ 15.00 to $ 20.00 a piece. Vet visit, about $ 40.00 to $ 200.00 a visit. Time spent, “Priceless”. But most of all knowledge, if you have no knowledge of this amazing bird, another smaller parrot or bird would be your best bet to start with.

Cockatiel COCKATIEL ????????????????

Question by dude: COCKATIEL ????????????????
how expensive is a cockatiel including the accessories like cage and toys and the cockatiel itself?

Best answer:

Answer by nottrina
it depends..

- are you getting a handfed cockatiel or one that is not handfed?
- how big a cage are you getting?
- what kind of cockatiel mutation are you interested in?
- exactly how many toys are you willing to buy (tiels arent really into toys btw..)

there are so many things you didnt cover in your question. its difficult to give you a good answer.

but if you are getting a cockatiel (or any kind of bird), the price of everything shouldnt really matter. you arent getting some cute little thing to play with once in a while. you are getting a companion that will spend the next 10-20 years with you.

you choose a bird that will best fit your lifestyle, and everything that will give your bird a comfortable life. the cost of it all shouldnt be a concern.

Bird Facts Q&A: What are some important bird habits/traits/facts?

Question by Maggie: What are some important bird habits/traits/facts?
I need to know some common bird traits and habits.
For example, the fact that they sing in the morning because they are calling to mates, and that baby birds have a tooth that helps them hatch.

Not random facts, but important, commonplace traits of birds.

Best answer:

Answer by Miss Kayla
Birds make their own nest by weaving a bunch of sticks together and they use their feathers, too. Some birds make there nest upside down to keep the predators, like snakes, out. The female birds eat the baby droppings and that keeps the nest clean.

Birds use feathers to fly. If the outer layer of feathers gets damaged, the birds will not be able to fly. Birds don’t have arms, but they have feet that they use to cling to branches.

Birds eat all kinds of things like worms, mice, rats, snakes, and some even eat dead animals. Birds feed their young by eating a worm and then they regurgitate the semi-chewed up worm into the little bird’s mouth.

Some birds like to bite on all kinds of things. They like to bite on shiny things like necklaces, rings, and other things. One day I was holding one of our classroom cockatiels and it bit right through my necklace.

The birds help humans a lot. Some help keep pests away and some keep the snakes out of your garden. Since some birds prey on rats and mice, they help keep there numbers down.

Parrot Rescue Can anyone provide any information on Exotic Parrot Rescue of Indiana?

Question by : Can anyone provide any information on Exotic Parrot Rescue of Indiana?
I am considering adopting a bird in the future and I was looking into local listings. Any information or dealings with Exotic Parrot Rescue would be a great help.
Thanks,

Best answer:

Answer by granny
In Indianapolis you call the human society and they have the name of a person who rescues birds. There is a small fee involved for adopting the bird. I know they also have one up north because I know of someone who adopted a bird need Kokomo. I think the human society in your area or a near by larger city would have a list of people to refer to you. I called the one in Indianapolis when I was getting a new bird but they didn’t have the type I wanted and they told me once they get a bird they hold it for eight weeks to check out any medical problems the bird may have I believe it was $ 65 to $ 100 dollars for the bird.

How do you make a thistle bird feeder? Something pretty simple

You can get thistle socks for only a couple of dollars. It looks like a little drawstring bag made of fine netting. The netting lets the thistle seeds poke out. It’s easier than trying to make one.

Bird Identification bird identification?

Question by Ford Prefect: bird identification?
I saw a sparrow-like bird in Minnesota at my feeder. It had very gold patches on his head and face, but otherwise completely sparrowish. Do sparrows normally have this coloration and I never noticed it? Is this a mating pattern only? Anyway, it was quite brilliant gold, comparable to a gold finch but only on its head. Looking for a decent internet site that show pictures. Ther searches I’ve made were filled with people selling stuff.

Bird Feeder How can I attract birds to my bird feeder?

Question by moJo Jojo: How can I attract birds to my bird feeder?
I put up a bird feeder a couple of days ago, and not one single bird has come near it… I tried putting bird seed on the ground and I was successful in getting the attention of some blue jays, but they avoided the feeder…

Does anyone know why birds are avoiding my feeder?

Does anyone know how to get the birds to feed from my feeder?

Should I buy a bird bath?

BTW I live in south Florida….

Best answer:

Answer by Jenn D
Just keep it full of seed and give it time. It took about a month for the birds to really get used to our feeder. Our bird feeder is usually only busy early in the morning. Btw… try a dish of peanuts… blue jays love peanuts… A bird bath can’t hurt if you want. It’s fun to watch them come get drinks and clean themselves. … west-central florida

Finches How many different varieties of finches live in the north Mississippi area?

Question by rebelchamp2003: How many different varieties of finches live in the north Mississippi area?
I live outside of Oxford, MS and have a finch feeder in the backyard. I am amazed at all the different color finches that come to the feeder.

Best answer:

Answer by musingsfromtheedge
During this time of the year, you’re probably seeing American Goldfinches and House Finches. The Goldfinches are just amazing…that yellow really blazes doesn’t it? Especially on a sunny day. The female Goldfinches are a bit duller and don’t sport that black cap as the males.

The House Finches are red and sometimes an orangish red. The females too, are duller in color and they are mostly brown.

What other colors are you seeing?

Bird Feeder Q&A: Bird Feeder?

Question by rabster101: Bird Feeder?
I’ve had bunches of bird feeders but squirrels eat the food. I’ve tried those bird feeders that squirrels ‘can’t get on’ but they still do!!! What should I do?

Best answer:

Answer by Carl
I think there is a hot pepper spray you can put on the seeds that squirrels will not eat. I’ve never used it because the squirrels get buck shot # 6 at my feeder. I hate squirrels because they eat my pecan nuts.

Free Birds Q&A: Where can I download free bird calls to attract birds to photograph?

Question by justin h: Where can I download free bird calls to attract birds to photograph?
I have heard that some bird photographers use bird call recordings while they are shooting in the woods to help attract birds closer. I can’t find any decent MP3′s or Wav’s that are a good length..Are there any web sites offering this for free?

Bird Feeding Do birds feed other birds? I saw a male Cardinal feeding a bird the same size as him. ?

Question by Euphie: Do birds feed other birds? I saw a male Cardinal feeding a bird the same size as him. ?
The other bird looked Juvenille, but it was not a Juvenille cardinal or a female cardinal. I’ve never seen any behavior like that before in my back yard. He was feeding him like he was his chick, but he looked big enough to be on his own.

Best answer:

Answer by Bob B
Some mother birds lay their eggs in other birds nests and they are then raised by the host birds. When they get larger, the birds still feed them like they would have their babies which probably starved due to the other baby bird intruding in the nest. Birds are dedicated, but some aren’t very bright.

Bird Feeding Bird feeding????????????????????????????

Question by benny: Bird feeding????????????????????????????
Hi I put out some Linseed, some raw cashew nuts ( not roasted or salted), some broken up digestive biscuits, and some uncooked porridge oats.

Is this stuff alright to feed birds, and what kind of birds will it attracts?

Also how long will they take to pluck up the courage to come and get it?

Best answer:

Answer by Charles D. M.
Seeds, cashews and oats will be fine. I would never feed any human foods to birds or any wild animals as they have ingredients designed for humans and may be harmful to animals. Wild bird seed mix, chicken scratch feed, corn, wheat, peas and all other seeds are fine for birds. The mix and scratch will attract a variety of birds such as doves, blackbirds, sparrows, Cardinals, finches, crows and pigeons. Th placement of the food should be away from human traffic and the birds will find it sometimes the first day.

Australian Birds An interesting observation about some Australian Birds?

Question by J. Frost: An interesting observation about some Australian Birds?
Ive noticed that quite often, a Magpie will be accompanied by a Noisy Miner. The noisy miner will follow it around and nearly always be with it. Not to attack or scare it or anything, it just follows it around, like they are best friends. Ive noticed this in several places, not just once, sometimes a single magpie will be followed by several miners! Any explainations? Anyone else noticed this?

Best answer:

Answer by Phantom
Mostly this activity is due to the noise minors trying to keep the predatory magpies away from their nests. Noisy minors live in extended family groups that help to raise the Alfa pairs young similar to kookaburras.
Scouts keep an eye on potential predators and follow them. If predators get near young then the predator is dive bombed/ chased even if bigger.
Magpies will eat bread but their main wild food is small and baby birds, lizards, insects, scavenging others kills and some fruits. .

Parrots Parrots - What is the best way to move parrots from one state to another?

Question by butterflee123: Parrots – What is the best way to move parrots from one state to another?
Im moving across the United States – what is the best way to get by parrots to their new location?

Best answer:

Answer by blondemama77
We moved ours in their cages in the car… we moved with them more than once so here’s what we did- in the winter when we parked at the motel we covered their cages with an electric blanket and plugged it in at the motel. They all had outside outlets to use. We also had a small extention cord. In the summer we would mist them occasionally with a water bottle. We kept them covered with a sheet but left it open at the bottom so they would be shaded but still get air circulation.

Finch Bird Feeders Q&A: What kind of food do you put in finch feeders?

Question by grylled_bear: What kind of food do you put in finch feeders?
I got my grandpa a finch feeder for Father’s Day, and he wants to know what kind of seed to put in it. He has a basic wild bird seed mix and black oil sunflower seeds for his main bird feeder. Are these ok, or do finches eat something specific?

Best answer:

Answer by Billy Ray Valentine
Yes, they eat specific feed. “Thistle” seed is what you want to get. It is small, long and black. You can pick it up anywhere you get bird seed. If the feeder has numerous feeding stations with perches and the openings are small and elongated, then this is a goldfinch feeder and thistle seed should be on the menu! Another thing, is the fact that only thistle seed will fit through the openings at each feeding station.. Hope this answers your question.
