Blue Jay Bird How can I make my blue jay "work" for his peanuts?

Question by Hanol01: How can I make my blue jay “work” for his peanuts?
I have in-shell peanuts set out for a blue jay who comes by and snatches them up quickly and flies off. I’d like to design a way for him to take more time getting to the peanut so I can get a better look at him when he comes by. Any ideas? Thanks.

Best answer:

Answer by Tiny Almighty
Try buying a certain bird feeder that it designed for them to have to more pick into it, place the peanuts in there, and he should have a much harder time grabbing them just so quickly.

Question by ☺☻☺☻☺☻: Is it normal for robins to be out in the snow?
I saw dozens of them today, in very heavy snowfall. I havent seen this happen before in my short life. I was wondering if it was normal. They looked confused, hopping around in the snow, like they were caught off guard. Very strange.
by the way, they were american robins, if it matters

I found, I think, documentation of this specimen here (scroll down). I forgot to write down the details of the specimen at the time, but the details on that web page look to be correct, so I will quote them here:
"Captured near Nashville in 1856, it is the only specimen of the extinct bird left in Tennessee….This bird was donated to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park in 1987 by the family of Knoxville ornithologist H.P. Ijams"

Finches How do I cover my zebra finches at night?

Question by Nikki: How do I cover my zebra finches at night?
OK, so I have two zebra finches who are completely paranoid of the dark. I try to cover them slowly and when they are asleep, but there is always chaos inside and I’m afraid they are getting hurt.
How do I make sure they don’t freak out every night?

Best answer:

Answer by jane
Its not that there scared of the dark just scared of the big thing that is coming over them Start by covering the back and sides of the cage leaving the front uncovered wait for them to find there perch then slowly slide the cover down over the front fo this with the lights on and make sure they find a perch before turning out the light if you do this at the same time every night it will become routine to them
Also birds like to be kept above waste level higher than that actually they are very scared of things coming over there heads

Bird Feeders How do I keep squirrles out ofmy bird feeder?

Question by kikyo: How do I keep squirrles out ofmy bird feeder?
The squirrles are always in the bird feeder and they chase the birds away.

Best answer:

Answer by GoodGuy53
Feed them separately. Obviously they are hungry too. And they can’t fly to where more food is. But don’t over do it. You don’t want them to become dependent.

Bird Feeders Why are people with bird feeders so concerned with making sure birds are the only things that can access them?

bird feeders
by ABN2

Question by G: Why are people with bird feeders so concerned with making sure birds are the only things that can access them?
I keep seeing all these squirrel-proof bird feeders. Yes, granted that they are BIRD feeders, food is food, and when you toss food outdoors where countless animals roam about, what makes people think birds deserve the food more than any other animal? Is there any valid reason, or do pro-bird people just arbitrarily hate squirrels?

Best answer:

Answer by Gabby
squirrels are annoying and very territorial, once they invade your backyard (or front yard) they can be quite the pests, but i agree with you 100%

Extinct Birds If prehistoric birds existed with the dinosaurs then why do they say that the birds evolved from dinosaurs?

Question by Birdo: If prehistoric birds existed with the dinosaurs then why do they say that the birds evolved from dinosaurs?
This is what I read:

“All non-neornithean birds became extinct, including flourishing groups like enantiornithines and hesperornithiforms in K–T extinction event. Several analyses of bird fossils show divergence of species prior to the K–T boundary, and that duck, chicken and ratite bird relatives coexisted with non-avian dinosaurs (T-Rex)”.

So this makes the modern birds descendants of prehistoric birds who lived with dinosaurs, right?

Also, ducks and chickens lived with a T-Rex? I never knew that.

Best answer:

Answer by Todd
Dinosaurs existed for 165 million years. The split was quite a bit before the K-T extinction.

Pet Birds Q&A: Can someone answer these questions about the care of a pet bird?

Question by →яαωя♥☺♣♫♠¡ ®™ ♥: Can someone answer these questions about the care of a pet bird?
I have some questions on owning pet birds. :D

1. Are birds very loud? (I know this varies with different types)
2. Which ones don’t “talk”?
3. What is the quietest one?
4. What is the best pet bird to adopt? (ex. macaw, parakeet, etc.)
5. Do they need to have time to be allowed to fly around the house, or is this too dangerous?

The more detail you give, the better. Thank you!

Best answer:

Answer by James
Hey.

You should know there are many kinds of birds are there but by the looks of your description i would say you would want a finch as they are small not too loud and easy to take care of but they do eat a little messy hahah : D btw they are not too be flying around the house if you want something like that a parakeet should do the job

What do you think? Answer below!
