Question by rebelchamp2003: How many different varieties of finches live in the north Mississippi area?
I live outside of Oxford, MS and have a finch feeder in the backyard. I am amazed at all the different color finches that come to the feeder.

During this time of the year, you’re probably seeing American Goldfinches and House Finches. The Goldfinches are just amazing…that yellow really blazes doesn’t it? Especially on a sunny day. The female Goldfinches are a bit duller and don’t sport that black cap as the males.
The House Finches are red and sometimes an orangish red. The females too, are duller in color and they are mostly brown.
