Question by Serena: How do I get rid of pigeons who have laid a nest on our roof?
I heard an odd sound yesterday and I noticed a pigeon’s nest on our roof (which I think had a baby in it, a larger baby but still a baby.) It is high up and has made a real mess of our roof under the eaves. I don’t want to kill or injure the birds, but I want them off of our roof so they do not continue to make a mess of things up there. I’m worried about damage to our house. We live out in the country so I’m not exactly sure where these pigeons came from. I don’t mind waiting till the bird is old enough to be on it’s own, which looking at the baby bird, it doesn’t look like it will be too long.

does anybody have a yellow naped amazon parrot under a year old in the los angeles area up for adoption? i have a cage and i’m willing to pay up to $ 100 for the parrot
Best answer:
Answer by Shortie
Have you tried craigslist.com or petfinder.com? Did you mean $ 1,000 because even adopting one will cost you more than $ 100, there’s not much of a chance of getting one for that price. www.birdbreeders.com sales Yellow Napes that are just weaned and most ship. Good luck.

Question by Gambit20: Is the browning edges of a bird of paradise normal?
I recently got a bird of paradise, I give it at least four hours of indirect sunlight a day, sometimes direct. I’ve yet to get a spray bottle to help with the humidity. I’ve put water on the leaves once to deal with that issue. It is near a heat vent, could this play a part? The leaves are a bit torn from recently being in a small green house and catching on some hooks while we were moving it. The actual edges are crispy, but the leaves are still green. Is this normal?

Answer by I8AShroom

Question by Brian T: How long until you can let roller pigeons out of their cage to fly?
Yesterday I bought two roller pigeons and immediately put them in a cage with food in water. One was born this year and the other is at least two years old and both are trained. How long do I need to keep them in their new cage before I can let them out and have them return to their cage?
Best answer:
Answer by Mary M
At least 3 weeks, I would wait longer though, if they are a mated pair I would wait till they started building nests and laying eggs, or if theyre not a pair I would wait a month or more. It’s never bad to be over-cautious with that kind of thing, I hate to lose pigeons that way.

Question by : Can you sprout sunflowers from bird seed?
I bought a big bag of Scott’s black oil sunflower seeds for bird feeding. It says on the bag “not for human consumption”. I do not plan to eat them, I would like to plant them in my garden. Does anyone know if this brand of seed will start or not?
Best answer:
Answer by Shadowfire Omega
i do not think so, i believe that they treat the seeds to be more nutritious for the birds, but no harm in trying.

We’ve all agreed that the Ares I-X hardware gets the BEST nicknames. In High Bay 4 of the Vehicle Assembly Building at NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, the yellow framework , nicknamed the "birdcage," is lowered over the Crew Module, or CM, and Launch Abort System, or LAS, assembly for a fit check.

I built a lens hood for it, and these are some sample pics using the hood. these are as they came out of the camera with no adjustment or cropping. I’m quite pleased with the increase in color saturation and contrast. without the hood it takes quite a bit of post processing to get any color or contrast.

Question by monkeyman: What size does a nest box for pigeons need to be?
I am going to be keeping pigeons soon for the purpose of dog training. I have already built the hutch, but now need to construct nest boxes for extra shelter and protection (and for use after mating). What are sufficient dimensions for one nest box, and does it matter if the next box is secured above the floor of the hutch or on the floor? Any advice will help. Thanks for your time.
Best answer:
Answer by Charley Bee
My uncle keeps pigeons and his nest boxes are a little not much smaller than these http://www.bartcaldenteytur.com/palomar4.jpg
remember to put the wooden block in for the birds to stand on, not sure about the nests on the floor bit!
and try to use wood for the cage doors instead of metal or mesh i saves injury!

Question by Arvind Pal: The indian ringneck parrot and indian green parrot are they same?
I have a pair of Indian green parrot but there is no ring on neck.
Best answer:
Answer by Goldy
If you are referring to Indian Ring Necks then , (without a picture no one can tell)but if Indian Ring Necks , which I believe you are referring too, they do not attain the ring of black and pink till they are between 2-3 years of age.
Then it is the Male that displays the Ring around it’s neck , the female does not have this.
If you wish to know the sex before they reach maturity , then the only way is to have a DNA Test, which can be of Feather, Droppings or Blood sample taken to a vet to test.

Question by Unknown: How can I get my African grey parrot to like the other?
I have two African grey parrots, one female and the other male, the female likes the male, but the male, sort of, hates the female.
The male constantly bites the female, and is being aggressive towards her, so how do I get him to like her? any tips?
P.S. when I separate them, she keeps trying to get to him, and makes a lot of noises
Best answer:
Answer by Moo
Put them both in small cages (Cat cages, or whatever you take them to the vet in) and stand the cages about 3m away from eachother. Give the male a treat if he isn’t agressive, then move him about 10cm closer. Give him a treat for every 10cm closer he will let you put him without being aggressive. Once he starts being aggressive, put them both back in their proper cages, and don’t give the male any more treats once he’s been aggressive. Repeat this everyday until the cages can be put next to eachother for up to half an hour.
You can’t force them to like eachother, but you can at least attempt to get them to tolerate eachother.
