There can be several reasons why wild birds aren’t coming to your birdfeeder. One reason could be the type of birdfeeder you’re using. Most wildbirds (robins, blue jays, cardinals, and sparrows) like a platform feeder. You’ll attract more wildbirds with this type of feeder than the others. Some will use a hanging feeder (finches, nuthatches). Another reason is if there are predators around, then they are scaring off the birds. Another reason could be if your feeder is in a poor location. Most wildbirds like to feed near trees and bushes, so they can easily escape predators. Another reason could be that the birds don’t like the food in the feeder. Most wildbirds enjoy eating black-oil sunflower seeds, safflower seeds, and niger seeds. Make sure your seeds are fresh. Water will attract more wild birds to your feeder. Keep a bird bath or water source close to the feeder so the wildbirds can drink or bathe. You can also feed the wildbirds some grapes, bananas, or oranges. Keep these in a separate dish close to the feeder. Many wildbirds enjoy fresh fruit.
