Blue Jay Bird what are the birds eating different now than in winter ?

Question by Edward: what are the birds eating different now than in winter ?
Here in Michigan spring has sprung and i am seeing less frequently blue jays, cardinals , sparrows and junco birds at my backyard feeding spot; What are they eating now that they were not in the winter ?

Mostly invertebrates (bugs, worms, etc) not available during winter. Proteins those foodstuffs contain are needed by your juncos for instance, to rebuild muscle mass after having overwintered with me, down here in Missouri. Females also need the protein additionally, to nurture the reproductive process.
