Question by Southern Belle: What are the dangers of owning a pet bird while pregnant?
My husband’s pet bird (a macaw) doesn’t like me and tries to bite me and my four year old son. I have recently found out I am pregnant and a lot of people have advised me that the dust from bird droppings are especially dangerous. My husband refuses to get rid of him and keeps the cage in the kitchen, even though the bird pretty much has run of the house because we can’t keep him in his cage. Any advice? I would really appreciate it if anyone can recommend good websites so that I can show him what the dangers of this bird are.

We had a Macaw. The bird poop can make you extremly sick unless you keep it extremly clean, I had to get rid of my bird for this reason. I dont recal what I had, but my mom and I both had it. We were unbelieveably sick for about 2.5 weeks, it was terrible.
