Australian Birds why do birds (magpies, Australian bird) roll there food in dirt?

Question by : why do birds (magpies, Australian bird) roll there food in dirt?
reason is i am rehabing a magpie and i see older magpies roll there food in dirt
1. to help in digesting (smal particles of dirt could help break up food)
2. to get helpfull bacteria in the gut
3. other ???????????

Birds roll in the dirt a lot. It is mainly for dislodging parasites but it also helps to remove old oil and shake out and rearrange clumped feathers. Not sure why they are rolling their food sorry for not answering well.
