Question by : Info on a 40 y/o parrots quarantine leg band?
My mom recently found the leg band from her double yellow head amazon while going through some stuff. She got her 40 years ago this year. All she has ever known is she was wild-caught as a sexually mature adult, went through quarantine in California, and was intended to be used as a breeder. My mom already had her other 2 birds at the time (hand fed babies, and yes she still has them too), and while buying them seed, saw the DYH at the petshop. She inquired and was told she wasn’t for sale, and was going to be a breeder. My mom couldn’t let that happen to the obviously distressed and frightened bird, so she offered them an amount, and took her home. She had the leg band removed by a vet a few days later, because she was chewing her leg around it. Now that she found the band, is there any way to find records back that far? She’s always wondered what country she came from. Any ideas on finding quarantine records back that far, and what kind of information they might provide?
Wacky- this was 40 years ago. It was still legal at the time to import parrots from South America. My mom has always known she was wild caught, and came from down there. And of course she didn’t like the band, she was an adult bird when she was captured, and probably went through scary stuff during her quarantine, including something uncomfortable being placed on her leg.

Not sure you will be able to find any information since the records were probably destroyed after so many years. You could try U,S, customs to see if they have anything on record.
