Question by MustLoveDogs: African Grey Parrot Help…?
Recently, we adopted an African Grey Parrot from our Animal Shelter. Jacko, as we have named him, is an incredible bird, and we’ve all grown super attached to him. The problem is…nobody can interact with him physically. Everytime we go to try and hold him, he pecks and bites us, fluffs up his feathers, and/or moves away.
We really want to be able to have him sit on her shoulder or our hands, but he completley refuses to let us hold him. This is really difficult on us since we want to physically interact with our parrot, not just have him sitting there.
Any tips on how to help him feel more secure around us?
Also, he rubs his beak a lot on his cage bars, even when he is out. Any idea what causes that?
Thanks!

Birds rub their beaks on cage bars or perches when they have finished preening, and this helps remove any bird dust off of their beak. I recommend reading http://ezinearticles.com/?How-to-Tame-a-Nervous-Parrot&id=2414872 for tips on taming your new Grey. Good luck!
