You know what’s funny? When Darwin found ‘em he didn’t know they were finches because they didn’t look like finches. He tentatively called them other things.
He sent them home to an ornithologist. This guy decided that they were finches, and pointed out that they were similar to a bird that Darwin had brought back from mainland South America.
