Question by August Julie Berch: How many red berries would it take to kill a person?
The little red berries on bushes that birds eat, but are poison to us.
Was it a theory or was it true? How many could kill if so?

Birds eat the red berries from a number of different bushes, so there’s no single “right” answer. Some types of berries (raspberries, for example) are edible for us as well as birds. Others, can cause a severe reaction if a person was to eat just a few (2-3). For others, you’d need to eat a few handfuls.
Not knowing why you’re asking (Are you doing research for a novel you’re writing? Interested in wild edible plants? Planning to kill your ex? Have a child that ate some?), it would be irresponsible to give too many details.
If someone you know ate some, take some of the berries & part of the plant with you to an emergency room (or see if you can take a clear picture with a camera phone and send it to a poison control center).
If you’re interested in finding wild foods to eat, take a wild edibles hike with a park naturalist or park ranger. Buy a field guide for your region (some areas even have an app for that!), or google “poisonous berries of____”. Be positive of your identification before you eat anything. And even if you’re certain it’s edible, try the berries in a very limited quantity first – even if they’re not poisonous, you may still be allergic to something in them.
You can also find out a lot about the poisonous plants in your area by googling the state/region where you live along with “poisonous wild plants” or “toxic wild plants” (be safe, use both!).
