Coal Miner’s Birdcage Complete (2)

The nearly complete Coal Miner’s Birdcage (reproduction of vintage models) as was used to carry a live canary into coal mine’s to warn the miners of bad air quality. If the canary remained alive and well, the air was acceptable. But if the canary was dead, the air contained either methane or carbon monoxide, and the miners would have to evacuate the mine until the air quality improved.
