Question by squattingdarkling: Where can I find cheap sunflower seeds in the East Bay area?
I just moved here and I have a birdfeeder. I used to get them at a farmer’s supply store, but I get the feeling that those don’t exist around here. I live in Alameda, so the closer the better.

Two options that immediately come to mind:
1) Watch for sunflowers growing, and ask the owner if you can have the “dead” blooms for your birds, then scrape them off yourself, or
2)Why not grow your own? You can either buy a packet of seeds at a nursery or Wal-Mart, plant them and follow suggestion #1! If you choose this one, don’t buy the prepared seeds that are salted for eating–cooked seeds won’t germinate. Also, should you choose this one, save some of the seeds to plant next season–freeze them in a Ziploc bag til you’re ready. (You could do this with #1 as well)
HTH–sorry I don’t know a specific place!
