Finches How long will it take my zebra finches to lay eggs?

Question by Army Bride: How long will it take my zebra finches to lay eggs?
I searched everywhere and can’t find it. I have zebra finches I bought about two weeks ago. Sadly they gave me 3 males and one female. I had them all in one smaller cage until I noticed Hestia, the female, spent most of her time with Hercules, one of the males. They even slept in the grit bowl together. So I got them a bigger cage for just them two a few days ago. I gave them everything I think they need including a nest and some grass to build with. The first night they slept on top of the nest, the second day they grew more comfortable with the cage, and now I’ve noticed they started to put the grass into the nest, so I guess they are building. I don’t know really what to do if I should give them egg for more calcium and protien, not change their diet, or what. I also wanted to know if she will lay the eggs soon. Will it be today or in a few days or what?

They will breed like rabbits. You need to pick up The New Finch Handbook by Barrons. Provide a cuttle bone for them to chew, sometimes I will take a knife and scrape it off into a powder for her to eat. Egg food is a wonderful source of protein for them, I use Sunn Seed or Quiko. They need it to make fat healthy babies.
I’ve also given them scrambled eggs, use olive oil instead of cooking spray to cook them. Parsley and fresh corn cobb are also greatly appreciated by the birds. I’ve had eggs as soon as a week after putting birds together. Have fun!
