Question by Cody: What is the name of a predatory bird that hunts at night (not owl) that lives in Montana?
I live in Montana around the Missoula area in the mountains and my boss saw a predatory bird with a 2-3 ft wingspan steal a fish out of his pond. This happened during the night or right before night and he says it wasn’t an owl. Please help me identify this bird of prey for him!

Osprey if it was right before night . Also night heron (wading bird) .
