Hummingbirds Q&A: If I live in west Texas, when does hummingbird season start and end each year?

Question by Roxxi Li: If I live in west Texas, when does hummingbird season start and end each year?
I want to buy a hummingbird feeder and swing for my balcony and would like to know when I can expect to see hummingbirds here in west Texas. Thank you!

When I lived in SW Oklahoma (2010) I saw the first hummingbird in late April. They were probably there before then but I didn’t see them. In Texas I would expect them to show up at least a week or so earlier than that. Start putting out feeders and keeping them filled with fresh nectar in mid-to-late March. It may take them a while to find your feeders. When I started mine in NW Florida they didn’t start using it until June or July the first year. Now they start using it in March or April and feed until September or October. This year they fed until early November but I haven’t seen one in a couple of weeks now.

Good luck and enjoy!
