Short-tailed Shearwater – Pelagic Boat Trip – 2008 Morro Bay Winter Bird Festival, Baird
Short-tailed Shearwater (Puffinus tenuirostris) – bird -Pelagic Boat Trip – Leaders: Brian Sullivan, Brad Schram, Tom Edell – Sat. 19 Jan 2008 out of Avila, Port San Luis, CA – 2008 Morro Bay Winter Bird Festival – event publicity photo for use by the bird festival committee for future publicity, etc. morrobaybirdfestival.org/ is the official site; Publicity photos to be freely shared are to be posted to the Flickr Group at flickr.com/groups/morrobaybirdfestival/pool/ – photo by Michael "Mike" L. Baird bairdphotos.com www.birdfest.org/ Canon 5D handheld.
Bird expert and author Brad Schram, trip leader, says "Actually Mike, I believe this bird is a Short-tailed Shearwater. First, the small bill and steeply angled forehead; second, the pale throat contrasting with the body color; third, the feet seem to extend beyond the tail just fine for either probably; the lack of molt–all the Sooties we saw were molting (this latter is only indicative, not diagnostic). Now–if the wing lining brightness is accurate, your bird is indeed a Sooty–but I think it’s a product of Photoshop contrast enhancement. My Short-tail photos have an identical underwing pattern with this bird–just soft gray instead of this bright." Thanks Brad!

kristyreading has sent you a message on Flickr. Subject: Use of photo. Date: 23rd June, 2011.
Hi Mike, My name is Kristy and I work for a publishing company in Australia that produces educational booklets and online courses. I found your photo on Flickr and thought it would be perfect to use in one our new courses. The courses we create are used by students in our high schools and training institutions. If we use this image www.flickr.com/photos/mikebaird/2205731046/sizes/o/in/pho… how would you like us to attribute your work in the booklet? Regards, Kristy Reading.
A: Kristy, thanks for the Creative Commons use. www.flickr.com/people/mikebaird/#credit
answers every question ever asked about using one of my photos under Creative Commons (CC) Attribution: How to attribute, access full-resolution versions, how to link back to the image page, and how to please comment on the image used linking to your use. The CC license says, amongst other things, that "You must attribute the work in the manner specified by [me] the author or licensor (but not in any way that suggests that they [I] endorse you or your use of the work)."
If you are using one of my photos under a Creative Common license (most are licensed for use with attribution), please attribute the photo in one of the ways as follows (listed in order of preference):
"Mike" Michael L. Baird, flickr.bairdphotos.com {link to the respective image landing page on Flickr} or
Mike Baird, flickr.bairdphotos.com or if you have very limited space
flickr.bairdphotos.com
and if purposed online, please link your text and image to my related Flickr image comment and overview page.
Cheers, Mike
