Extinct Birds Q&A: Since a meteor wiped out the dinosaurs and much of life, from whence came the reptiles that evolved into birds?

Question by : Since a meteor wiped out the dinosaurs and much of life, from whence came the reptiles that evolved into birds?
One of the more well-supported theories of how the dinosaurs became extinct is that a meteor struck the Earth 65 million years ago. Did some reptiles still survive? And if so, do we know what kinds of reptiles these were? Please do support your answers with reputable sources.

Many thanks.

1) There are other good theories for what killed the dinosaurs: one is here:

Also, it wasn’t just the dinosaurs that died our, there were numerous sea creatures and land plants – also the fossil record shows that they didn’t all die out at once, it was a step-wise extinction that lasted half a million years.

2) Dinosaurs were not reptiles and many reptiles did survive this extinction event (e.g., crocodiles).

3) Reptiles did not evolve onto birds, some dinosaur species evolved into birds. Again, dinosaurs were not reptiles.
