Cockatiel Q&A: How to introduce two new cockatiels to my cockatiel?

Question by Chris: How to introduce two new cockatiels to my cockatiel?
A few months ago one of my cockatiels died well I was on vacation. After a while I decided to look for some new birds because the one I have left seems lonely in his cage. I fond a breeder that has two cockatiels she is selling and I fell in love with them. Do you guys have any suggestions on how I can introduce them to one and other?
Thanks
PS: My cockatiel Is Around a Year old and the ones she is selling are 8 months old.

I bred cockatiels for 5 years and in my experience as long as the cage is large enough for them to all have their own comfortable space then I see no issue introducing two new birds. Add additional food and water dishes in case they pick favorites and may fight over them.
The fact that the two new birds are younger helps as well. There may be some pecking and light fighting but it shouldn’t be anything serious. They will naturally bicker to show dominance.

In my aviary most birds get along or at least tolerate each other. When introducing a new bird I always quarantine the new birds in a different room in the house for at least a month. This is done to make sure the new bird is healthy and didn’t become stressed from the move and come down with an illness that could spread to your existing birds. This gives the new bird a chance to get used to you and the sounds of your household.

Nothing is certain, it just depends on the birds personalities. You just have to give it a try.
Good luck with your new additions!
