OK so I bought a small birdcage at an antique store and I was waondering if it would be at all hazardous to burn a candle inside of it. My mom said the metal might heat up and that would be bad…?

Take the bird out first!
Seriously though, it depends on if the thing is painted or not. Old paint had lead it it. Strip it bare of all paint, clean it real good, and you ought to be o.k.
A candle doesn’t have the heat to heat up metal that much.
Don’t leave it burning unattended, though.
