Question by Rawr: Why are Mockingbirds more aggressive than other birds?
I always see mockingbirds either chasing each other around or them chase around other much bigger birds, like crows or even birds of prey. Why don’t I see like a Blue Jay chase around other birds, like a mockingbird? Why are they more aggressive than other birds, and the birds they chase, don’t they get annoyed? Why don’t they just like swing around and attack the mockingbird? I don’t know, I’m just wondering . Thanks!

mocking birds are one of many birds that frequently attack larger birds, this usually happens for 2 reasons, (1) the mockingbird is chasing away a potential predator of it’s offspring ( crows will eat baby birds and eggs) (2) it could also be a territorial thing. some other common birds that attack larger birds are kingbirds, and black birds. they both are commonly seen chasing crows and hawks. on the other hand crows will almost always gang up on a hawk or owl sometimes in the hundreds. I’m sure sometimes the hawk will defend itself if pushed hard enough. One time I was watching a Bald Eagle being “mobbed” by gulls on the beach, and it got about 100 yards away I saw one gull go in for another dive bomb and the eagle rolled over and in a cloud of white feathers the gull was being carried off for a meal.
