Birds Q&A: Can birds survive if left at a relatives place if the owners goes on a vacation or a trip?

Question by Love_Sprite: Can birds survive if left at a relatives place if the owners goes on a vacation or a trip?
How attached are birds to their owners? If you have a pet bird and go on a 3-4 week long trip you cannot take your pet with can it survive at a relative’s place?

I know dogs stop eating and suffer when this happens. How about birds? Also, How attached are birds to their trainers?? Will they take commands from people other than their trainers?

I have a friend who “bird sits” for people in her home. None of them have ever died. Just be sure the people understand exactly how to feed them and the importance of a clean water dish.

If your bird is used to being handled, train it to go to others. This doesn’t work for all birds. Some birds bond only to one or two people. Socialize them while they are young to get a better chance.

Hopefully if a bird has been trained by a professional, they have trained the owner as well. The bird should be adaptable to it’s new owner. You have to show confidence and no fear with a parrot-type bird.

Have a nice vacation and don’t worry.
