Question by Rainie: Will putting a nesting box in my budgies’ cage force them to breed right away?
I feel really bad about not researching beforehand, but my budgies are probably most definitely underage. I took the nesting box out right away after finding out, but the nesting box has been in the cage for a few days. The girl budgie has been in and out of there a lot, throwing the nesting material out. The nesting box being in the cage for a few days won’t influence the budgies too much, will it?
By the way, one is a boy and the other is a girl.

Probably not. The nesting box is actually something of an issue amongst bird owners like my self. One of the main issues about a nesting box is that a lot of the times, the birds are afraid of the box. Another issue, is that the boxes that are given for budgies are usually too small. Also, you have to remember that birds are not stupid, and budgies are some of the smartest birds out there. They won’t just randomly start having kids with the first girl/boy they meet. You should also realize that yes, as you said, they are most probably under age. (Sexual maturity comes at around 7-12 months for budgies, and they will usually not mate for another 6 months or so) They will not be influenced. And by the way, bird babies are some of the HARDEST baby animals to take care of. It sounds really easy when you think about it, but you have buy baby food from pet stores, you have to get the baby bird feeders(usually syringes) and you have to feed them every 6-10 hours. You should really watch out before you get yourself into such a commitment! Hope I helped!
