Northern Saw-whet Owl (Aegolius acadicus)
A small owl of all types of woodlands, the Northern Saw-whet Owl can be found roosting in winter in small, dense conifer trees, sometimes even in parks and gardens. Its defense upon discovery is to sit still and not fly, leading people to perceive them as "tame."

Bird in the Hand postcard
A bird in the hand – what is it worth?
This postcard is a visual pun, but also carries more serious undercurrents. How much is a species worth? Both of these birds (puaiohi in hand, 2 palila on bush) are endangered on Hawaii. All pictures from an old San Diego Zoo member magazine.
Swapbot: Handmade Postcard #3 – Sender’s Choice. Sent to a nature lover (who by way of freaky coincidence, had just read about the same birds in an Audubon magazine!)
