Question by dbudd14: Can a blue jay fly without tail feathers? Are they ever born without tail feathers?
We’ve been seeing a blue jay in our back yard for the past week without tail feathers. We think we’ve seen him fly once, but he usually just hops. Is this common?

All birds are born without any feathers and then get their feathers later. It is possible he could have never gotten them at all, however I think he may have gotten into trouble with another animal and lost them. They will eventually grow back over time.
