Question by Jenga!: How to discourage squirrels from coming near my bird feeders?
I used to love having bird feeders when I lived in Colorado. However, once I found out a neighbor was feeding squirrels, I realized why they were eating all my bird seed. So I stopped putting it out because it would just end up in a big pile on the ground. Now I live in Kansas and am ready to try again. Any suggestions?

Well, its illegal here in Illinois to trap rabbits or squirrels by traditional methods,
We had to change to feeders with wire lines to the feeder because the squirrel chewed through the string and smashed a full plastic feeder 5 feet to the ground
Vaseline is OUT, because birds can’t preen it off, and they lose heat through the damaged feathers. Using hot pepper is also a waste of hot pepper, at least with our fox squirrels.
Mostly when I see squirrels lurking I send the dog outside.
