Question by Atlas: How do I start birding?
I’m curious as to how an 18-year-old starts birding. I know I need to get binoculars, a camera, and a big, dorky hat. Is there anything else I may need?
How do I learn all the types of birds in Arizona? What’s a good field guide to buy?
Where is a good place to go bird watching in the Phoenix area? What might I see? How can I meet other young people who love birds? It seems more like a middle-aged activity.

A good guide book is essential. How do you know what you’re looking at without one? Preferably pocket size for when you’re out and encyclopedic for at home.
