Bird Feeding Feeding a bird of prey the game it has caught?

Question by Lemonsock: Feeding a bird of prey the game it has caught?
I have recently took an interest in falconry. Lets just say that I did indeed manage to capture and train a bird of prey (with the proper teachings and license of course), and I took it hunting. Since my family does not like to eat wild game, could I just cut up the dead animal and feed it to the bird later after the hunt?
Please only answer if you are educated in this sport.
(I’m talking about a red-tailed hawk)

This really depends on the species that you are hunting with. Beginners used to start with American kestrels, but I don’t think they are common anymore. Kestrels eat large insects, small mammals, reptiles, amphibians, and birds. If you are using something a little bigger like a red-tailed hawks, they eat small mammals such as voles, mice, wood rats, rabbits, snowshoe hares, jackrabbits, and ground squirrels. RT hawks will also eat birds such as pheasants. Falconers will also use peregrine falcons, which eat birds, from songbirds up to waterfowl, but will also feast on bats and other small mammals. Hope this helps! If you have a different type of bird, please update and I can let you know what they may be fed.
