flightless birds evolved from dinosaurs or before? Are they amphibians originally or not?

If I’m not mistaken, flightless birds evolved from birds that could fly.
As the flying birds found breeding grounds that became more and more separated by continental drift, some no longer needed to fly any where at all. The flight feathers and large wings evolved into smaller appendages.
