Question by 123: When do baby cockatiels start eating on their own?
When do pet cockatiels eat on their own? When do I stop feeding my baby cockatiel a formula mixed food, it is about 6 weeks old now. Also how do I give it water, because sometimes I think the formula might get stuck or something and it needs water.

I would start offering your baby seeds now. Your baby will start to play with the seed.put some on a piece of paper and offer it that way. Leave seed in the cage with your baby at all times. You can cut back on how much formula you are giving slightly. Do not completely stop giving the formula until you are completely sure he/she is eating seed. You can also get a weaning food from Doctors Foster and Smith. www.DrsFosterSmith.com If you are mixing the formula as directed on the box your baby is getting enough water. I use Exact hand feeding formula for all baby birds and it gives complete information on how to use the produst on the label. If you have any further questions feel free to contact me. Good luck.
