Buy Birds Q&A: What is a good Shotgun to buy for birds?

Question by : What is a good Shotgun to buy for birds?
Hey, so I want to buy a good shotgun that I can go hunting for birds with my friends and Dad, I want one that would be good for shooting out of the air accurately, any suggestions?

Oh also, where exactly do I buy one? Does Dick’s sporting goods sell them? Because it doesn’t show real guns on their website. Thanks

There are a few other things you want to think about. First, how old and how big are you? Smaller bodys might be more comfortable with a 20 gauge, larger with a 12 gauge. The 12 is considered more versatile because it holds more shot and is commonly used for ducks and geese. Now, if you’re going to shoot gees, you want a 12 gauge, 3 1/2 inch shells, which probably means an autoloader, even with a 28 or 30″ barrel. However, if you were to hunt dove and quail you’d prefer a 26″ barrel and 2 3/4″ shells would be fine. Or, for dove, quail, pheasant and close-range ducks, a 20 gauge will do just fine. But with a 12 ga, with light loads you can also shoot quail and dove and pheasant. So much will depend on the type of hunting you’re going to do. Talk to your dad and friends about what they shoot (guns and birds). The gun you use for geese might be too heavy to carry for dove and quail. Just some things to think about.
