A few nice bird suet images I found:
Home-made Suet

Real "suet" is the fatty tissue that surrounds the kidneys of sheep and cattle. However, it is widely accepted that any type of animal fat drippings is safe for wild bird consumption. We saved the trays our store-bought suet came in and have been adding bacon drippings to them (they are the perfect size for fitting in suet feeders). I recently read that one should not add shell-on sunflower seeds because the birds may be more prone to getting grease on their feathers as they try to extract the seed. We won’t be adding any more.
