Scarlet Macaws seen outside a seaside restaurant near Tarcoles, on the Central Pacific Coast of Costa Rica. We stopped for lunch and were amazed that these wild birds were so close by!

Senegal Parrots (Poicephalus senegalus) in the Wild

About as high up in the canopy as the trees in Hann Park reach (apr. 30 meters / 100 feet). Great job on the Zuiko 50-200mm picking this couple out. View large.
Almost certainly a male and female pair — the female to the viewer’s right in both photos. Preening / courtship behavior between male and female.
ID guidelines (from Wikipedia):
* The V-shape of the vest is usually longer in females, so that the green area extends down over the chest to between the legs whereas in males it ends midway down the chest.
* The female’s beak and head are generally slightly smaller and narrower than the male’s.
* The under-tail covert feathers (short feathers under the base of the main tail feathers) are generally mostly yellow in the Male and generally mostly green in the female.
* Males are generally, but not always, larger and heavier than female birds.
This is a common parrot for the pet trade, but these two above are not captive but indigenous and in the wild. This pic will shortly be CC licensed and contributed to Wiki.
