Question by InternationalTodd: If I put out a finch feeder full of Niger seed, 13 floors from the ground in South, West Beijing, will finches?
find it? (my home is 13 floors up)
Are there wild finches here (in Beijing) to find it?
If there are wild finches here, what type and color are they?
If there are wild finches in the South-West area of Beijing, how far apart must finch houses be placed for finches to settle in and be comfortable enough to reproduce?
I have two windows about 20 feet apart and about 40 – 45 ft away, is another two windows about 12 – 15 feet apart. Could I have have 4 finch houses and likely 4 pairs reproduce?
I have not seen any hawks but I suppose there could be some around.
Thank you for your time!

I cold not find specific feeding habits for finches but their nesting habits are around 10 to 14 feet above ground level. There are a great number of finch types throughout China. This is the phone # for for a birding society in Shanghai. Tel: 8600-13764527616, +86-021-27123068 they can most likely tell you if finches will feed as high as the 13th floor. I suspect their answer will be yes depending on what types of finches are indigenous to your area. There are finches that normally live at 4,000 ft altitudes.
