Question by karen b: I want to make a collar for my blind bird?
I have a rescued bird who has one eye, she can barely see shaddows out of her “good” eye and she does not fly.
We let her walk around the house (she usually doesnt run into things, which is why i think she can see shaddows). Since she walks around the house, though we are responsible and she usually doesnt walk places she doesnt know, i suppose theres still a small possibility she could get out. Id like to make her a collar with something stitched or written saying something like “im blind please call xxx-xxx”. In case she does get out, anyone who finds her would know she is a pet and is special needs.
If a collar wont work, is there a type of metal leg band that is not seamless? Maybe it can be engraved?

It would be quite helpful if you explained what species your bird is. A collar would be quite awkward for a parrot to wear, but if your pet bird is a goose, a collar might work. I’m assuming your bird is a parrot. If you wanted to have that type of information on a tag/band I would suggest a wing identification tag, since it might not fit on a leg band:

Above is a picture of two juvenile macaws who are wing-tagged…
My suggestion is to go to a local Avian veterinarian and ask about the options that they have. You also might want to contact your local Fish and Wildlife Service to see what tagging options that they have available.
Hope this helps.
