Question by rittings: What bandwidth does Angry Birds on Chrome take up?
Because we noticed decreased speeds of over 400 kbp/s whilst our other laptop was running Angry Birds through the Chrome browser….

I was wondering if there was anyway to actually check what bandwidth was being used on this since it was the ONLY thing we stopped before re-checking speeds…

I wouldn’t think that the game would use a large amount of bandwidth since it loads once, as opposed to stream on a constant connection. You should check whether anything else is being downloaded in the background.

In terms of tracking, it depends on what OS you are using. I use Ubuntu which has this running out of the box, but if you are using Windows, I would guess you need to find a program that suits your needs. There are lots of free, and often open source, applications on the web. These can simply be found by typing “bandwidth monitor” on Google and choosing one.

Here are a couple that I found:

http://sourceforge.net/projects/freemeter/

http://www.bwmonitor.com/

They look reasonably good and the former is open source so it’s highly unlikely that it poses any security risk.

P.S. It has nothing to do with your browser. Using Firefox would NOT remedy this problem as it would do the same thing as Chrome… which is probably faster. If you share a link to the game I will attempt to load it and tell you if it is using excess bandwidth with my own monitor.

What do you think? Answer below!
