Birds For Sale Why does my birds sales paper say rare parakeet?

Question by : Why does my birds sales paper say rare parakeet?
I went to petsmart and perchaced a parakeet about a year ago. I found the old papers and was reading them and it says his breed was rare parakeet. His coloring is the same as other parakeets except for he has every color combined. He was the same price as the other birds so why is he called rare parakeet.

In the pet store trade Rare is just a name (and sales marketing tool). Consider the word rare as being used as a word for a color. It can often mean the bird was bred to be an unusual color mutation. The bird itself is not rare at all——well other than as a valued family member to you. Your birds breed is not rare only its color, possibly at the time it was hatched it could have been. All budgies are the same whether they are the original wild green or some common or not so common color mutation. It seems to me that breeding facilities simply place color combos together for mating & then whatever comes out that is a bit different is referred to as the color “rare”.
