Bird Feeder Poles How do you keep squirrels away from our bird feeder?

Question by kat: How do you keep squirrels away from our bird feeder?
I’ve greased the pole and added crushed red pepper. Then I used red pepper powder. Now the birds are staying away but the squirrels still eat it. Any suggestions?

1. Attach a slinky to the bottom of the bird feeder, around the pole. They’ll climb up and as soon as they latch onto the toy it will dump them to the ground.

2. Get an anti squirrel feeder. They’re not very expensive, and extremely effective. The most common are ones with weight limit platforms. If anything too heavy stands on the bird feeder, a metal door will close, blocking off the seed

3. Switch to safflower. This attracts finches, cardinals, etc but is unappealing to squirrels.
